Scuba Fun PADI Dive Center - FAQs

I certified a few years ago and haven't dived in a while.  Can I come on the morning two tank dive?
  • If you haven't dived in two years, we strongly recommend you come and do either a Refresh dive with us, or a shallow afternoon one tank dive.  This is for your own safety and comfort.  We want you to enjoy your dives and reserve the right to refuse divers who we consider will not be comfortable on our morning two-tank dive trip.
Can my brother just come and hang out on the boat with us?
  • The morning two tank dive trip is not really suitable for passengers.  The afternoon single tank dive trip is to a shallow, protected site - snorkelers and passengers are welcome to join ($ 40 - including snorkeling equipment).
We're staying in a hotel in Oyster Pond.  How can I get to your Dive Center?
  • We offer a shuttle service(only $ 10 round-trip per person and per day) between hotels and resorts in the Oyster Pond and Philipsburg areas.  Please confirm this when making your reservation.
We're coming in to Philipsburg on a cruise ship.  How far is your Dive Center from the ship terminal?
  • Scuba Fun Dive Center is located just a 5-10 minute flat walk from the cruise ship terminal (see map).  Our dive trips coincide with the arrival times of most cruise ship companies.
How long do I need to wait before flying home after my dive?
  • You can fly home the morning following your dives.
My itinerary says we arrive in Philipsburg 7.00 am boat time.  What time does your morning trip leave?
  • St Martin/St Maarten is GMT/UT -4hrs which means that in summer, we are the same as Miami time, in winter we are one hour ahead of Miami.  Please confirm your ship's arrival and departure time when making your reservation.
What equipment do I need to bring?
  • We can provide all snorkeling and diving equipment.  Please bring your own towel.
Do I need a wetsuit?
  • The water temperature around St Martin varies between in summer 84 (29) and in winter 78 (25).  A 3mm shortie or long suit is included in the equipment rental.
I've lost my certification card.  Can I still dive with you?
  • If you are a PADI certified diver, we can check your certification status online.  For all other certifying agencies we need proof of certification.
How long are we on the boat, I get seasick?
  • The nearest sites are only 10 - 15 minutes away from our Dive Center.  Depending on the sea conditions, we may visit sites up to 25 minutes away.  Your safety and comfort is our priority.  If conditions were too rough, we would cancel the dive (and you would, of course, receive a full refund).  If you are not used to ocean diving, however, take a seasickness treatment before coming to the Center.  Most pills need to be taken an hour or so before embarking on the boat.  Eat a light breakfast (cereal, toast, croissant etc are all fine) and avoid coffee and fruit juice.
